Chapter 1
Meet DigiDassie and the City by the Sea
f404a074
Hello, hello, and welcome to the very first episode of DigiDassie Said So! I’m Danielle, your host, and I’m so glad you’re joining me here at the foot of Table Mountain, right in the heart of Cape Town. Now, before we get into the city’s secrets and stories, let me introduce you to someone special—well, not someone, but some dassie. Meet DigiDassie, our sharp-eyed, AI-powered rock hyrax, who’s got the best seat in the house—perched up on the rocks, looking out over the city and the sea. I mean, if you’ve ever hiked up Table Mountain or Lion’s Head, you’ve probably spotted these little guys sunning themselves, looking like they own the place. And honestly, they kind of do.

Table Mountain National Park isn’t just a backdrop for Cape Town—it’s the city’s heart and soul. The mountain shapes everything here, from the weather to the way we live and play. It’s wild, it’s beautiful, and it’s full of stories. And, of course, it’s home to our dassies—those cheeky, chubby little creatures that always seem to be up to something. I remember the first time I saw a dassie as a kid—my dad pointed one out, and I thought it was some kind of giant hamster. I was fascinated! They’re not shy, these dassies. They’ll stare you down, twitch their noses, and then scurry off like they’ve got important dassie business to attend to. That curiosity, that boldness—that’s exactly the spirit we’re bringing to this podcast.
Chapter 2
What to Expect with DigiDassie

So, what’s this show all about? Well, DigiDassie Said So is a bit of a mashup—think sightseeing, local culture, and a dash of dassie-approved commentary. We’re going to explore Cape Town from a whole new angle, with stories and tips you won’t find in your average guidebook. One week, we might be sniffing out hidden coffee shops tucked away in the city’s nooks; the next, we’ll be sharing the view from a secret trail only the dassies know about. And, of course, there’ll be plenty of quirky city stories—those overheard moments that make you stop and think, “Only in Cape Town, hey?”

I want this to be a conversation, not just me talking at you. So, here’s a question for you: what do you wish you knew about Cape Town, from a local’s perspective—or even from a dassie’s? Maybe you’re curious about the best spot for a sunset, or you want to know where the locals actually go for a proper cup of coffee. Or maybe you just want to hear what the city sounds like from up on the rocks. Whatever it is, let me know! We’ll try to answer your questions, and maybe even get DigiDassie’s take on things. After all, who better to ask than a dassie who’s seen it all from above?
Chapter 3
Enjoying the City Together

Now, here’s the fun part—DigiDassie and I are going to share all the little things that make Cape Town special. From sunny seaside spots where you can watch the waves roll in, to the vibrant city markets bursting with colour and life, we’ll bring you the highlights and the hidden gems. And, just for fun, I tried living like a dassie for a week—well, sort of. I started my days with sunrise views from the rocks above Camps Bay, spent a bit too much time sunbathing, and did a lot of people-watching. Let me tell you, you see the city differently when you slow down and take it all in from up high.

One of my favourite things about Cape Town is the soundscape. If you close your eyes, you’ll hear the minibus taxis hooting, seagulls squawking, and the distant crash of waves all blending together. It’s a bit chaotic, a bit beautiful, and totally Cape Town. That’s the vibe we want to share with you—real, unfiltered, and full of life. So, whether you’re a local, a visitor, or just dassie-curious, stick around. We’ve got plenty more stories, tips, and dassie-approved adventures coming your way. Until next time, keep your eyes on the rocks and your heart in the city. Cheers!
